A father broke the hand of his two months old child for crying in Nigeria

A man identified as Confidence Amatobi has supposedly broken his two-month-old child's arm for “disturbing his sleep.”

The incident that occurred in Imo State has drawn in judgment and shock, as the attack on the little child prompted the removal of the cracked arm.

The Imo State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), and the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) have called on the State Government and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to capture and arraign the suspect right away.

Portraying her experience, the mother of Miracle, Mrs Favour Chikwe who hails from Idemili Community, Anambra State in Nigeria unveiled that she had left Miracle with his dad on Friday, October 7, 2022, to utilize the accommodation, when the incident occurred.

Favour reviewed that she heard her child crying wildly and needed to rush back to know the reason for her cry just for her to find that his right hand was enlarged and bone parted from the beating he got from his dad.

Amatobi, it was learnt, admitted that the child was disturbing his sleep and he needed to attempt to stop him by battering him.

He said: “Upon noticing that he has broken the baby’s hand, he used sticks and rubber bands to bind the broken bones together.”

She said: “When l confronted him about what he did, he locked us in the room, to prevent me from telling people about his wicked deed or seek for help. He also collected my phone from me so that I will not call the neighbours.”

She described how she figured out how to take the child to emergency clinics locally that wouldn't treat the child before she took him to FMC Owerri where the amputation was done.

The woman appealed for help to save her youngster while approaching the state government, NHRC and other common society associations to help her to get equity for her child.

NAWOJ, NHRC and the distressed mother of the little Miracle settled on the decision for equity in a joint press preparation in Owerri on Monday.

The Imo State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Dr Dorothy Nnaji, said that injury caused by the 31-year-old dad, a local of Amurie in Isu LGA of the state prompted the removal of the little boy's right hand at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri.
Communicating shock over the occurrence, Mrs Nnaji, depicted it as obnoxious savage that a dad could attack his blameless youngster just on the grounds that he was disturbing his sleep.

She unveiled that Amatobi was accounted for to have over and over hit the child with a plastic item to prevent him from crying until the right hand broke.

Portraying the assault on the little boy as the level of child abuse, the administrator requested equity for the child since he was unable to represent himself.

The Imo State Coordinator NHRC, Mrs Ukachi Ukah, on her part censured the ruthlessness and demanded that equity should be permitted to follow through to its logical end.
